Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said he does not want to see Russian President Vladimir Putin at this year’s G20 summit. He spoke in support of the US Alliance, but said that maintaining some independence was important for Russia.
Trudeau said Putin’s presence would create “different difficult complexities” for us and would not be conducive to the G20.
“It will be a big problem for many countries, including Canada,” he told reporters in Ottawa. The goal of the G20 summit is to determine how we can manage and accelerate global economic growth. “
“Russia’s aggression in Ukraine has hampered the economic growth of the whole world, and Russia cannot be a part of the constructive discussion on how to deal with the crisis caused by Russia’s illegal aggression in Ukraine,” Trudeau said.
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden has said he supports the exclusion of the world’s top economies from the G20. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison also said Putin should be barred from attending the group’s summit in Bali.
Last week, a Russian ambassador to Jakarta said Putin wanted to attend the G20 summit. But all member states of the G20 will decide.
